Melissa Barr

Melissa Barr started her ballet training at the age of 7, and came to Myers Studio while a high school student. She continued her training with Ms. Myers while earning her B.A. in Political Science and her M.A.T. at Union College. Ms. Barr has also studied with Larry Long at Ruth Page School of Dance in Chicago; Diana White, Roma Sosenko, and Christian Claessens at Scarsdale Ballet School; Michael Vernon at Steps on Broadway, among others. Ms. Barr was the first recipient of the Edward Villella Fellowship, awarded at Union College, which enabled her to spend three weeks interning and taking class with Miami City Ballet. She went on to work in Development for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and for the Princess Grace Foundation, U.S.A. in New York. Ms. Barr danced the role of the Fairy Godmother in NEB's first production of "Cinderella," and has danced several roles in NEB's annual production of "The Nutcracker." She has choreographed for the Myers annual concert and danced in several pieces by Ms. Myers. In 2010 she was asked to choreograph a ballet for Niskayuna High School's musical production of "Cinderella" as well as NHS's 2014 production of "Romeo and Juliet”. Ms. Barr is thrilled to be a staff member for the School and a Rehearsal Assistant for Northeast Ballet.
